TBD organizes information neatly into three levels. Level 1 looks at your virtual environment from a top down perspective:

How are we doing? Are there issues? If yes, drill down. If not, move on to the next item on your to-do list
What is the trend? Are new issues coming in faster than we can resolve the old ones? Do issue counts go down?
What are the top issues? Technical facts without getting lost in detail
Format: Weekly or daily email reports and high-level overview pages

Consistency is key. Management level information must be backed up by technical fact. From each top-level report you can drill-down to the data and to concrete recommendations.
Storage latency is an issue? Clicking on the graph takes you to the What? and Why? and When? on level 2. Which datastores, which VMs, which hosts do experience latency?

In TBD's three-level model of information level 2 is the Operations level. Here is where many of the unique capabilities reside. The software identifies resource competition and the resulting bottlenecks using proprietary technology not available from other vendors.

Where? Virtual resources do not have capacity limitations. Problems occur when the virtual entities hit physical resources. Specialized algorithms allow users to focus on bottlenecked resources only.

Why? The software identifies the virtual machines that are creating the resource competition. The focus on real resource competition is essential: other monitoring and capacity planning solutions for VMware only identify top users - but there is nothing wrong with using available capacity. Problems occur when too many VMs hit the same physical resources at the same time.

Every resource measurement: CPU, memory, IOPS, latency, network and storage throughput
For each host, datastore, virtual machine, virtual and physical interface
Smart aggregation: no exploding data volumes, since the software selectively forgets unnecessary details
High-level trend and chargeback information is kept for longer periods of time
Permanent storage of exception information: data that can be used for future optimization is kept for longer periods of time
Don't think average: other solutions only keep averages, but vPanorama sees crucial patterns that are the foundation for superior optimization.
